Peter Carroll gets Naseby Road "Buffer strip" action5.35.39pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 9th Sep 2008
Cheriton Councillor Peter Carroll has received an undertaking from Shepway Council that they will be sending a team to clear up and cut the 'buffer strip' at the rear of houses in Naseby Avenue in Cheriton and that they will revisit the idea of allowing tenants to make use of the land under some form of notional lease. A Naseby Avenue resident contacted Cllr Carroll regarding the "buffer strip" between the houses and the industrial estate. Despite many years of trying, the Council had failed to maintain the land and had refused to transfer it to local residents to extend their gardens and take over maintenance of the area. Shepway Council Officer Keith Cane has confirmed that he will request a clear up of the area to be organised as well as trying to get the land incorporated within gardens, which would improve the environment for residents and remove further clearance costs from the Council. There have previously been planning permission issues with such a transfer when it has been considered in the past, but is hopeful that these can now be resolved. Lib Dem Peter Carroll commented: "I'm hopeful that we can get progress on this and see this problem solved for good. A number of houses in the adjoining estate have, quite reasonably, been able to extend their gardens, and it seems the logical solution here."
