Carroll Calls for New Bins in Cheriton High Street

6.33.22pm GMT Tue 19th Feb 2008

Cheriton Councillor Peter Carroll has called on Shepway Council to reinstate litter bins in Cheriton High Street that have been removed. Cllr Carroll made the call after the missing bins were raised with him by a local resident at a Police and Communities Together (PACT) meeting in Cheriton in January.

Peter has written to Shepway Council Cabinet Member for the Environment, Rory Love, asking for the bins to be put back in the High Street. He wrote:

"On Thursday 31st I attended the Cheriton/Morehall PACT meeting. One of the 3 main action points to come out of the meeting was to address the lack litter bins on the stretch of Cheriton High Street from Cheriton Post Office down to the hardware shop. A local resident has since shown me the marks in the pavement where 3 bins were positioned in the past. These have been lost as a result of various roadworks and collisions with errant motor vehicles.

"On behalf of the PACT and of the residents of the area I formally request that you authorise the supply and fitting of 3 bins on this stretch of road. I understand that the Council may be under severe budget pressures. However, I hope you would agree with me if the PACT initiative is to maintain the confidence of local people we need to follow through on its concerns and deliver solutions."
