Shepway Apply to Build 6 Houses on Cheriton Rec

4.55.33pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 24th Aug 2007

Shepway District Council has submitted a formal application for outline planning permission for six houses on the part of Cheriton Recreation Ground between the Bowls Club and Weymouth Road.

Having fought this application earlier this year, the Liberal Democrats team are as unhappy as many other local residents to see this application resubmitted. This development builds on a part of Cheriton Rec, an area which should not be developed, and will lead to loss of facilities and increased traffic problems in the area.

As the Cheriton Liberal Democrat team said in February when this proposal was suspended last time:

"Like many local residents, the Lib Dem team feel that the land is part of the park, and should remain as recreational land - for good. This decision must be made permanent - not just shelved before an election."

The Liberal Democrat team will work with local residents who were overwhelming against this proposal earlier in the year.

The new application Y07/1120/SH is now available to view in full on the Council web site at http://tinyurl.com/yv2bkl You can also ask to see the application and detailed drawings at the Planning Department at the Civic Centre on Castle Hill Avenue.

Objections to the scheme can be submitted by email to the Shepway Case Officer Jon Barnes jon.barnes@shepway.gov.uk who can also be contacted on 01303 853383. They can also be sent in writing to Jon Barnes, Planning, Shepway District Council, Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone CT20 2QY (Quote application Y07/1120/SH) or via the planning section of the Shepway web site.
