VJ (Victory in Japan) Remembrance

An 11am service in the Garden of Remembrance on Sandgate Road in Folkestone marked VJ day today. The service, run by the Burma Star Association, marks the anniversary of the end of the 2nd World War in 1945 following the surrender of Japan.

Attending the service were a number of local veterans and residents, the Town Mayor Peter Gane and Deputy Mayor Emily Sanger, Shepway Council Chairman George Bunting and Folkestone Town Councillors including Gary Fuller, Tim Prater, Sue Wallace, Janet Andrews and Brian Copping.

They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old,

Age shall not wither them nor the years condemn;

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We shall remember them.
