Taylor Road Park Action11.12.41am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 31st May 2007 Mayor Peter Gane has taken a lead in working to get a long neglected park in Taylor Road, Cheriton, back into use. The park, to the rear of houses in Taylor Road, has had a recent history of dumping and is overgrown and neglected. Play equipment was removed some time ago after it was vandalised. On Wednesday, Cheriton Councillors Peter Gane and Tim Prater met a representative of Shepway Housing Department, who own the land, and local residents at the park. Local residents asked that grass and weeds in the park should be cut back and made into an area where local children can play. A new gate to stop the area being used by flytippers has also been proposed, and that access should be limited to local residents only. Shepway Housing Department are now costing the proposals. Tim Prater said: "Getting an area like this cleared up will in itself help reduce rubbish dumping: neglect breeds neglect. Local residents want to be proud of the area and to have a facility for local children. They have already been actively trying to clear up the area, removing dumped earth and more. With a little work, I hope that we can see the Park brought back into use."
