Lib Dems slam Tory nonsense on Sports Centre1.13.52pm GMT Tue 30th Nov 2004
Hythe Lib Dems have today slammed the Conservatives for "scaremongering nonsense" over the new Sports Centre for Hythe. Cllr Neil Matthews, who has been heavily involved in the negotiations over the new Sports Centre, has reacted with anger to a new Conservative leaflet that is being distributed in Hythe. Cllr Matthews said "This is a highly irresponsible leaflet and does the Conservatives no credit. The new Sports Centre is one of the best projects on the horizon for our town, and the Tories seem to be out to wreck it. "The entire Lib Dem Group on Hythe Town Council are 100% united in our fight to ensure that the new Sports Centre is built on time and fulfils Hythe's needs. Every step we have taken has been to ensure that the Sports Centre can go ahead. The idea that we would vote against Hythe's best interest would be laughable if the matter were not so serious. "The only motive I can think of for such irresponsible actions is that the Conservatives actually want the project to fail. I would urge the Conservatives to stop putting hurdles in the way of the Council and let us get on with what people in Hythe really want- a state of the art Sports Centre for our town."
