Recycling Boost for Shepway6.24.46pm GMT Mon 23rd Feb 2004 Lib Dem run Shepway District Council has won a massive grant of £1.3 million from the Government this week. The grant will be used to introduce a kerbside recycling scheme across Shepway. The scheme will mean that residents can recycle a wide range of materials including plastics, bottles and paper. Lib Dem Cabinet Member for Environmental Wellbeing, Cllr Carol Crees said "This is excellent news from Defra and will help the council achieve its priority to create a cleaner, greener and safer Shepway. It will help us double our recycling performance from 20 per cent to 40 per cent and will give every one of us living in the district the chance to play our part in reducing the waste we sent to a hole in the ground." Parliamentary Spokesman, Peter Carroll welcomed the news saying "When local people voted for the Lib Dems to run Shepway Council it is exactly this kind of initiative they wanted to see. I am delighted that this scheme will be coming to Shepway, and that another key pledge from the Lib Dems has been kept."
