Lost labours New!

Today I launched my pamphlet, Lost labours, with Nick Clegg. As somebody who has a long involvement with the Labour party, including editing the New Statesman magazine, I have been able to give a frank and honest appraisal of a decade and a half of New Labour. And in it I explain why I can no longer support them, and am instead turning to the Liberal Democrats.

Temporary road closure - Wilberforce Road, Sandgate

Because of urgent sewer works, Kent Highways have advised that it will be necessary to temporarily close Wilberforce Road, Sandgate, Folkestone. The works are planned to commence on 8 March 2010 for up to 14 days.

Last night, by 27 votes to 12, Shepway District Council gave Lydd Airport (LAA) the go ahead to expansion plans, against expert advice from its own advisers, officers, Natural England, the RSPB and others.

Invicta Tribute to Rifleman Aldridge POSTPONED

The Chairman of Folkestone Invicta, Lynn Woods, has advised that due to the weather over the past few days, the tribute to Rifleman Aldridge planned for this weekends game against Croydon is postponed. with the game itself very unlikely to go ahead.

Environment Agency Flooding Risk Update

Our Forecasting Centre, which we run with the Met Office, has told us there is a risk of coastal and river flooding in Kent over the next few days as a result of predicted heavy rainfall. Rising spring tides and rain falling on already saturated land could result in localised flooding. We wanted to advise you of that and let you know what we, and others, are doing.

Veolia Water Southeast bills announcement

Veolia Water Southeast (VWSE) has announced that its prices for 2010/2011 will rise by 1.5%. Ofwat has approved an increase of 1.2% in charges to allow the company to continue with its extensive capital investment programme with an additional allowance for inflation of 0.3%. The 2010/2011 charges were agreed with the regulator last year as part of a five year plan covering the period 2010-2015. The rises for 2010/11 will take effect from the beginning of April.

Fantastic Folkestone Invicta Tribute to Rifleman Peter Aldridge

Folkestone Invicta are inviting all local residents to pay their respects to Rifleman Peter Aldridge, the Folkestone based soldier recently killed while on service in Afghanistan. A minutes silence will be held in advance of their home game this Saturday against Croydon, and to encourage attendance, the club are offering free entry for the game.
